We’re hiring people from diverse backgrounds who bring analytic rigor, creative energy, and focus on impact. Join us.
Our Work
Our projects range in scale from buildings to neighborhoods, public parks to infrastructure systems, program design and management to policy development and implementation in cities across the country and around the world.
We care about improving the quality of urban life, and we are increasingly focused on the challenges of inclusivity, infrastructure, and technological innovation in cities. We advance public-private development projects and policy initiatives that improve economic, environmental, and social outcomes for communities of all sizes.
Our Culture
We are former public servants, urban planners, designers, city officials, activists, real estate developers and economists. We create value for our clients by integrating multiple disciplines and leading teams with architects, engineers, lawyers, community organizers, and other specialists.
Nearly everything we do is a team effort, internally, with other professional services firms, and clients. Collaboration, trust, and integrity are important components of our culture. This sense of team extends to our ownership structure: we are 100% employee-owned. Our staff is data-driven, creative, and dedicated.
We believe in and support our employees’ growth and advancement. Many of the firm’s senior leaders started off as analysts. Within our collaborative work environment employees learn new skills and earn additional responsibilities. In addition to a supportive work environment, HR&A offers an annual stipend to assist in professional development.
HR&A values a diverse workforce where we benefit from different life experiences and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and committed to maintaining a workplace free of discrimination, sexual harassment or other harassment based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship, immigration status, ancestry, age, medical condition, physical or mental disability or perceived disability, genetic information or characteristic, military or veteran status, political affiliation, marital status, reproductive choices, sexual orientation, sex (including gender, gender identity, gender expression, gender transition, pregnancy, childbirth and medical conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding), or any other category or characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.
HR&A is committed to building a diverse workforce while centering issues of equity and inclusion in the work that we do. In 2020, we laid out our commitment to Anti-Racism and convened an Anti-Racism Task Force to lead the development of internal equity initiatives and strategies to more effectively incorporate equity into our client work.
COVID and Remote Work
We believe our employees thrive in a team atmosphere. However, given the ongoing pandemic, we are supportive of and accommodating remote work requests. Currently, all our offices are open at a reduced capacity.

We often like to think that the greatest benefit of working at HR&A is our project work – it’s our dedication to delivering meaningful improvements to the built environment and urban life that drives our desire to come to work each morning and travel to clients around the world.
