Anchored by the newly-renovated Broad Street Station, the Broad Street neighborhood is a key, but underutilized asset in Newark's downtown core. HR&A assisted the City of Newark to draft Redevelopment Plan for the Broad Street Station District, and explore land disposition strategies for City-owned properties and other publicly- and institutionally-owned parcels within the District. HR&A recommended the issuance of a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) by the City of Newark as well as its partners, the Newark Housing Authority, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Rutgers University, ultimately drafting and marketing the developer solicitation. HR&A is currently working with the Broad Street Committee to evaluate the respondent submissions. The Redevelopment Plan received the NJ Futures 2009 Smart Growth Award for Comprehensive Revitalization Planning.
