As part of a multidisciplinary team hired by the NYC Economic Development Corporation, HR&A is developing the City's Sustainable Vision for Sunset Park. This project integrates urban design with analysis of the manufacturing firms of this Brooklyn waterfront neighborhood. HR&A will explore the extent to which the operations of these firms can be made more environmentally sustainable by collaborating to reduce waste and inefficiency, use more rail and waterborne shipping, and take advantage of new opportunities for "green" industrial development. HR&A will perform the economic analysis that will inform a set of recommendations to enable an environment for a Sustainable Sunset Park. This analysis will consider infrastructure needs and other city investments, zoning, and guidelines for management of City real estate. The Sustainable Vision will transform one of New York's remaining manufacturing zones into a center for the emerging green economy while reducing the carbon footprint of this heavy industrial area.
